The Neu Bulletin (3rd November 2014)

New music guide The Neu Bulletin (3rd November 2014)

DIY’s daily delivery of new music tips, featuring RATZ, RAYE and Years & Years.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE GIG:Years & Years support Sam Smith — Cambridge, Corn Exchange

Things are getting serious for Years & Years. One week they’re the new music stars of Jools, the next they’re touring the biggest venues they’ve ever played alongside Sam Smith. Olly Alexander and co.’s hot-footed dance-pop hybrid looks destined to steal the show in 2015.

THE BIG NEU THING:RATZ

Climbing out from the sewers, RATZ are a disease-infested bunch from California making forthright, no-shits-given punk. Every thud and disarming guitar line is calculated, but when combined, there’s a similar appeal to the wake-bake-skate mentality of fellow LA-dwellers FIDLAR. Venues across the world will go mad for this shit if the Reilly brothers get given a platform.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS:RAYE — Hotbox

This ‘Hotbox’ looks set to burst. Feel the heat? It’s following RAYE, a new South London talent placing simple, affecting lyrics alongside tight, minimal production, like Lorde with the honesty switch on ‘max’. At 17, this Croydon newcomer’s clearly got something special up her sleeve in a debut EP, ‘Welcome To The Winter’, which’ll be a free download this November.
