New music guide The Neu Bulletin (3rd October 2014)

DIY’s new music tips include Oscar and Wonder Wonder.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE WEEKEND GIG:
Oscar, Fake Laugh, Soph Nathan - London, The KPH

This is one tough bill to top - tonight the KPH in West London hosts three of the most exciting new bands in the country. Oscar is perfecting his tongue-in-cheek, baritone pop, Fake Laugh’s romantic wooziness just cemented itself on a great new EP and the more fresh-faced Soph Nathan are one track - one brilliant track, at that - to the good. That essentially makes tonight’s show unmissable.

THE BIG NEU THING:
Wonder Wonder - Shark

One track a month, all amounting to a debut album made up of blog-alighting tracks. It’s pretty simple stuff, and the same applies to Wonder Wonder’s refined approach to pop. ‘Shark’ doesn’t bear saw-teeth or a bloodthirsty desire - instead it gets by on sparse, affecting songwriting free of adds-ons or pointless loose ends.
