New music guide The Neu Bulletin (4th August 2015)

DIY’s new music tips, featuring Kagoule, Peluché, Dewy Sinatra and Dios Mio.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE GIG: Kagoule, Vant, Peluché

Three bright new acts from completely different corners cram into the Barfly tonight. Kagoule have a twisted take on grunge defining their debut album ‘Urth’, out 21st August. Vant are straightforward - they give direct, no-bullshit, attitude-stuffed rock a new face. And Peluché are on the other side of the coin, bit-by-bit making a similarly strong impression with jazz-nodding pop defined by strange subtleties. It’s all very exciting, being honest.

London, Barfly

Broke, fed up and convinced things can only get worse, Dewy Sinatra doesn’t have a whole lot of hope in his system. ‘No War’ sees him sampling news skits where David Cameron can’t remember the price of milk, all while citing the busied, rushed and try-hard norm of being a Londoner. He captures the shit side of living in the capital better than a stuffy ride on the Northern Line.

London four-piece Dios Mio could dive into emotion-led rock with the flick of a switch. They could bellow out atmospheric anthems with ease. Instead, they find a middle ground between the two, introspectively owning their own space. ‘Treehouse’ is a late night, insomnia-led beast, a Daughter-meets-Editors work that peers out from below the surface.
