New music guide The Neu Bulletin (4th June 2014)

DIY’s daily dose of new music tips contains Sivu and GEoRGiA.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery.

THE GIG:
Sivu - London, Roundhouse Studio

At first the Sivu listing had him down for playing the actual, 5,000-capacity Roundhouse. Steady on, guys. It’s not a ridiculous thought to imagine him eventually playing the big Camden arena, but for the time being he’s in the comfier haunt next door, showcasing his sweetness-tinged early tracks.

THE BIG NEU THING:
GEoRGiA - Be Ache

Georgia Barnes (GEoRGiA) is part-time session drummer with JUCE, Kwes, Kate Tempest and more. Her newly unveiled solo project is anything but an afterthought. Taken from an EP on Kaya Kaya Records (‘Come In’), ‘Be Ache’ sinks and swerves with the kind of jerky, all-everything production that might even turn ultra-experimentalist Four Tet’s head. It’s forward thinking to the extreme, up there with Quirke and TALA in offering a taste of something distinct.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
bayou - Speedboat

London label head slash rising producer Bayou truly arrived with his recent ‘Loopback’ mixtape, which arrived alongside slick art-house visuals, packing nine future-gazing productions. ‘Speedboat’ is an offcut, an extra slice of smooth 21st century R&B to gather up with an already impressive release. Further proof the guy’s onto something special.
