THE GIG
Angel Haze - London, Birthdays
NYC’s most ferocious, downright all-thrills rapper in an age lands in London ahead of the release of her debut album and pre-her Bestival set this weekend.
THE SONG
Hugh - Not Fair Too Far
If it was possible to literally turn back time, sap 2012 and 2013 of all its new acts, pretend they didn’t exist, and return with something completely new based around those bands, Hugh would probably be the result. That sounds like they’re some kind of market research band. They’re not. Well, they might be - info’s still scarce on the members and ideas that make up this project - but this Ghostpoet-channelling title track is cool to the bone and it bloody well knows it.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Mister Goodnite - Don’t Trust Me
Who’s this soulful so-and-so, strutting onto the scene? Where’d this voice come from and how’s it etched itself so beautifully onto ‘Don’t Trust Me’. Mister Goodnite aka Tyler Parkford’s vocals almost sound like they were lifted from an old 70s hit and warped into a modern-day sample. Only this the real deal and it’s happening right now. Morning Ritual release the ‘Songs About Love and Lack Thereof’ EP on 16th September.
