If there’s a gig that’s worth heading to, we’ll tell you all about it, and if there’s a song you need in your life, we’ll make sure it doesn’t fly under the radar. It’s the Neu Bulletin.
THE GIG
East India Youth - Green Door Store , Brighton
William Doyle of East India Youth has stripped his Bandcamp and Soundcloud pages of all remaining music, so we’re guessing his ‘TOTAL STRIFE FOREVER’ debut is being prepped for a re-release, or it’s been forever banished from beautiful memory. Outside Brighton station those hoping to find some fragments of his 2012 debut will be attending in equal measure with those keen to get a first glimpse of his heady electronica.
THE SONG
Sisters - Sun Walk
London’s Sisters aren’t concerned with diverting your attention from the very off, but in a song like ‘Sun Walk’, they eventually make their point loud and clear. Its opening seconds hiss by in a haze of nothingness, all until the rhythm section suddenly finds its bearings and the song steams up into an absolute monster of a track. Vocalist Aoife adds to the frenzy, screaming ‘I won’t tell anybody / cause I’m ashamed and sorry’ - the complete antithesis of calm. This is the best fuzzed-up track we’ve heard in yonks.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Oliver Wilde - Curve (Good Grief)
Curve (Good Grief) by OLIVER WILDE
This new track from Bristol songwriter Oliver Wilde has more than a slight smack of Deerhunter to it. We’re talking the climax of ‘Helicopter’, when Bradford Cox’s vocals tilt themselves upwards into the stratosphere and everything surrounding sends itself into a frenzy. Beautiful. And ‘Curve (Good Grief)’, a first glimpse of forthcoming debut album ‘A Brief Introdcution to Unnaturual Lightyears’, is right up there with some of Deerhunter’s most dazzling efforts. Howling Owl Records release the album, but this track is a free download in its own right. Thanks to GoldFlake Paint for the tip.
