THE GIG
MMOTHS - Brighton, Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar
Call it a gruesome comedown, if you will, but this Winter just gone MMOTHS was playing arenas with The xx. All the same this small-scale show on the South Coast will give a glorious taste of the forthcoming Great Escape Festival (May 15-18) in the same city.
THE SONG
Heathers - Teenage Clothes
Teenage Clothes by Heathers
Skinny jeans with a couple of shoddy, sewn-up rips. A grubby hoody. Or, if you tried too hard, a non-tailored suit jacket from your local Topman. That’s what I associate with the title ‘Teenage Clothes’. But then the song itself - courtesy of Heathers - brings forth all sorts of more impressionable, happy memories. Like discovering the taste of beer and learning how to talk to girls. The LA three-piece offer this out as a free download, to any teen with a cause.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Hiding Face - Terrible Things: In Memory Of Jenny
Terrible Things: In Memory of Jenny by Hiding Face
How can a song lasting 1 minutes, 47 seconds have such a big effect? Whichever Matt Berninger-channelling, proud baritone soul sporting lines like ‘when I was a dreamer, I could talk to girl without being a dick’ this is, he’s keeping things on the down low for the time being. Hiding Face is an ‘on-going project’, this being the first song unveiled. The self-professed ‘sad songs of a lonely widower’ will come in fuller force, we’re sure. But for the time being ‘Terrible Things…’ is enough to see in Spring with a tear rolling down each cheek.
