THE GIG
Sauna Youth support Ty Segall - The Garage, London
Football Manager fans will be familiar with the option to coach your young upstarts with the help of a more senior player (John Terry teaching the Chelsea academy ethics, for example). Without doing any disservice to Sauna Youth, who by all means know how to work a crowd into a frenzy, the band will still no doubt benefit from hanging out with garage rocker mode du jour Ty Segall. Head to London’s The Garage to see the young prodigies battle it out with the wise head of hair. So much hair.
THE SONG
NONONO - Like The Wind
When you hear the mutterings emerge claiming that NONONO is Scandi-pop’s greatest export for some time, that it’s like listening to a possessed Karin Dreijer, that it’s a late entry for song of the year, you roll your eyes and however reluctantly, persist and give it a go. And then it hits you, like only the best pop tracks can. This Stockholm trio has clearly benefited from working with Icona Pop and Beatrice Eli, ‘Like The Wind’ being the kind of track you only dream of hearing every once few months, years even. Just listen out for the chorus.
FURTHER NEU BUSINESS
PINS - Shoot You (Acoustic Session)
Midway through a visit to Novosonic Festival Neu favourites PINS sat down - sort of like Westlife in their heydey, only these guys didn’t stand up with every key change - to perform a very different take on their ‘Shoot You’ track. It’s easily the catchiest and most immediate of the Manchester band’s select few tracks and in this environment it’s even more laced with style.
