THE GIG
9mary supports Alela Diane - London, The Tabernacle
4 songs in French by 9mary
Flo Morrissey is gaining a gradual standing in transferring her intimate studio recordings into fascinating live beings. It won’t be long before she’s headlining a show of this scale, but for now she’s in the supporting role alongside Alela Diane.
THE SONG
NAKED - Lie Follows Lie
The tap-tap machine drums and crystallised guitars of NAKED’s new single on Song, By Toad immediately conjure up your ‘synth pop brigade’ of Chromatics et al. But these individual parts begin to mutate as ‘Lie Follows Lie’ progresses, becoming more muscular, forceful. With that, the Swedish-bred, Glasgow-residing trio offer something remarkable.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Crossed Eyes - Hours
Hours by Crossed Eyes
Location, membership, intentions: There’s nothing going on Crossed Eyes beyond the name and the accompanying, mystic imagery that links up to ‘Hours’. Musically, a Horrors ‘Primary Colours’-era blend of looping electronics and wall-of-noise sonics takes the lead, while similarly Farris-esque vocals inspect the scene. Based on this and ‘Fell’, we’ll be hearing a fair bit more from whichever individuals are behind this.
