THE GIG
Rainer - London, Birthdays
Debut shows rarely come as curious as this. No pressure or anything, Rainer, but if Rebekah Raa and producer Casually Here manage to translate their jerky, super-intelligent pop to the stage, the world’s theirs. It’s that simple. They’re launching their debut single on ASL Records, ‘GIRLS’/’MONEY’. It’s very good.
THE SONG
Dig - Sometimes
Even though ‘Sometimes’ could exist from any point post 1990, there’s a nagging sense that its timing couldn’t be much better. Dig’s acoustic lulls and floaty takes tell only half of the story. ‘Sometimes’ is a purposefully sluggish, semi-sarcy burst of inner frustrations. It slouches on the couch and takes emotional liftoff all at once. Sounding like a dreaded hangover giving way and letting in a little light, Dig are onto something.
Dig play London’s George Tavern on 10th October.
