News The Week That Was: Blood Red Shoes, Lana Del Rey & More

You may not have realised it, but these last seven days have been very special. Not for the end of world hunger nor universal peace among humans - but for the resurrection of Lizzy Grant.

That’s right. Jesus might as well step aside now, for the indie world has found a new Easter day. Speaking to BBC News, Lana Del Rey confirmed the remarkable news that - after using her enormous wealth to buy back the rights - she’d be re-releasing her ‘original’ ‘debut’ album recorded under birth name Lizzy Grant.

Talking of the second coming of greatness, Brits this week will have been delighted to hear that the ever-polite Tyler, the Creator and his bunch of fellow good do-ers would be returning to our shores to play a number of shows. We’re not worthy, Tyler. Meanwhile, ultra-rebel-punk Ed Sheeran added further dates to his chaotic, anarchic UK tour.

Sarcasm aside, Battles revealed genuinely exciting plans for a four-part vinyl remix series - also unveiling reworkings of two ‘Gloss Drop’ tracks from Gui Borato and The Field. That wasn’t the only exciting news this week, with Blood Red Shoes plotting their long-awaited comeback with the announcement of a new album, UK tour, and the unveiling of a brand new track.

London producer Shells this week put together an exclusive mix for DIY, including a brand new track of his own. Slow Club announced a tour of the UK to follow their visits to the US and Australia. Chairlift allowed us to stream their recently released second album ‘Something’ in full. Grimes announced details of a tour of the UK and Europe. And Camp Bestival unveiled their 2012 line-up, including Hot Chip, Frankie Rose, and Spector.

As well as Grimes and Slow Club, UK tours from Ladyhawke, High Places, Sea Of Bees and Glasvegas were announced. New videos this week included those from Hooded Fang, La Sera, The War On Drugs, Florence & the Machine, Porcelain Raft, Islet and Cloud Nothings. And we also got the chance to hear new songs from Fair Ohs, Brown Brogues, Sun Glitters as well as a collaboration between Miike Snow and Lykke Li.

Jack Penate found himself the subject of some press when he revealed a video of himself performing a brand new track. Tennis dropped a brand new track ahead of the release of their new album. And finally, Google and YouTube found themselves the subject of some controversy when they removed an advert promoting the new album from Perfume Genius with the explanation that it wasn’t ‘family safe’.

Happy Lana Del Rey day, all.
