News The Week That Was: Lana Del Rey, Adele, The Black Keys & More

Yes, dear reader, we’ve resurrected our round up of the week in music news. Bluntly, we thought you’d struggle to keep up with the fast moving world of bands releasing singles, announcing tour dates, cancelling said tour dates and stuff without it. This time, however, we’re putting it together in a quick, easy to read format. After all, if you don’t have time to read during the week, you probably don’t have time to scroll through 20 pages of photos and text, do you?

It’s a week ago today since Lana Del Rey found herself sitting pretty in the higher reaches of the UK singles chart, thus making herself ineligible for the BBC’s Sound Of 2012 pundit fest. Bet she’s gutted, having since confirmed a new single as well as her signing to Interscope.

The past week saw new dates announced by Bombay Bicycle Club and Real Estate, Orbital, Ladyhawke, Zulu Winter, Future Of The Left and, erm, Skrillex (he’s definitely a thing now, guys, so let us know when everyone has decided if that’s good or bad) as well as a one off Xmas show from Emmy The Great and her rock star other half Tim ‘Ash’ Wheeler.

Fans of live music being cancelled will be pleased to hear Adele has pulled the remainder of her 2011 commitments, but also probably need to go see a Doctor themselves, as bluntly that’s just a bit weird. Almost as weird as the name of Damon Albarn, Flea and Tony Allen’s new project Rocetjuice And The Moon, which to be honest sounds like a really, really crap name for someone’s first band. Naturally, we blame the Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist.

We’ve had new music from The Black Keys, with their rather excellent new effort ‘Lonely Boy, a new cut from Active Child in the form of ‘Diamond Heart, , and perhaps best of all Keep Shelly In Athens unveiled a new song titled ‘DIY’ - guys, we never knew you cared! Videos from Thom Yorke and Modeselektor, REM, Fanzine, Patten and Memory Tapes should keep you happy, as should DIY premieres and exclusives from Chinese Christmas Cards, The Social Club, and a full stream of the debut solo album from 65daysofstatic’s Paul Wolinski under the guise of Polinski.

Other things to be aware of; Kate Jackson of The Long Blondes fame has returned with a new single, there’s a rather excellent 4AD Session with the marvellous St Vincent doing the rounds, and some band named Coldplay are likely to be Number One this week. Us neither.
