News The Week That Was: Rihanna, Lana Del Rey, Bloc Party & More

The sun is shining in the UK and what better way to celebrate than by reading a round-up of the music news of the week, on your own, inside, curtains closed - right?

I jest, of course. A much better way to spend a sunny weekend would be by drinking copious amounts of alcohol in a field in Hackney while the likes of Rihanna, Jack White, and The Maccabees play music in the distance - and now you can, apparently, at the next BBC Radio 1 Weekend.

On the topic of festivals, Latitude this week revealed the news that Lana Del Rey would be playing at this year’s event, Download announced another batch of bands, Paul Simon was confirmed as a headliner for Hard Rock Calling, and Bestival also announced a legendary headliner in Stevie Wonder.

Bloc Party this week announced the news that they’d signed to Frenchkiss Records for the release of their next album. My Bloody Valentine revealed their plans to release two re-mastered albums and a compilation. And Odd Future continued being unpopular with American police.

The Cribs unveiled the video for ‘Come On Be A No-One’, taken from their forthcoming new album, while Tanlines, Taking Back Sunday, and The Who all did similar. Beck even decided to write a new song.

We also this week got the news that Adele was probably now rich enough to buy about 2 months of David Cameron’s time, with ‘21’ outselling Dire Straits’ ‘Brothers In Arms’.

And, of course, the latest issue of DIY hit the shelves this week. Now go outside and enjoy the sunshine before it starts raining and we all get miserable again.
