Neu This Week In New Music (23rd November 2013)

Kagoule, The Amazing Snakeheads and Rad Fru link up for a very loud new music round-up.

The latest edition of DIY Weekly spends most of its time waxing lyrical about the loudest, most exciting bands on the planet. It’s an influx of new names, for the most part: Gnarwolves, Royal Blood, LYGER and so on. Together they could cause a veritable stampede of noise, bringing down whichever foundations they fancy smashing into. But there’s more. A new crowd; a similarly fierce force but one that won’t hit until 2014’s in in midst of its inevitable frenzy. There’s so much going on, so many amps being blown to pieces. The below is only a tiny fraction of the being being obnoxiously brash. Allow this Saturday to be a welcome reminder that the collective decibel level is being raised.

TRACK OF THE WEEK
Kagoule - Adjust The Way
Kagoule - Adjust the Way by Kagoule

Kagoule have been milling around for a year or two now, waiting to pounce on awaiting prey. ‘Adjust The Way’ is a mere free download on Hate Hate Hate Records, the label responsible for a good chunk of the UK’s loud contingent. The song stands out as Kagoule’s heaviest cut to date and also - by a long stretch - their best. Not a second goes by without the Nottingham trio rioting their way through proceedings, unapologetically forcing themselves into the foreground. And bloody hell, there’s a chorus too. Who said loud couldn’t be beautiful?

VIDEO OF THE WEEK
The Amazing Snakeheads - Flatlining

Around six months back at the time of Brighton’s The Great Escape, the name ‘The Amazing Snakeheads’ was filtering around from the beer can-lined seafront and beyond. A Glasgow trio with enough sordid tales up their sleeves to render a Rihanna video suitable for young audiences, their grubby approach to rock ‘n roll is in full flow now. Like some frenzied clashing of heads between Dirty Beaches and Iggy Pop, ‘Flatlining’ is a leather-jacketed shock to the system. It begins as an atmospheric, growing song, more concerned with setting the stall than forcing its way through a heady chorus. But when it eventually reaches its end-point, ‘Flatlining”s left everything for dead.

DISCOVERY OF THE WEEK
Rad Frü

Every element that struts into the centre of Rad Frü’s debut track ‘Metal Bar’ is nigh-on disgusting. It’s like Aerosmith minus the botox, shamelessly showing off power chords and some dubious sounding solos. One wrong turn and it’s be the musical equivalent of dad dancing, a crying shame. Somehow, these Londoners hold it together with impressive showmanship to boot. Very few could pull off a track like this. The fact that it’s a debut makes it all the more outstanding. A hair straightener-ed, zeitgeist-buckling beast.
