News Tour Diary: Citizens! (Part Two)

Paris, Grace Jones and illegal photographs.

Citizens! are currently out on the road before the release of their as yet untitled debut album, due out later this year. Their first ever headline UK tour kicked off on 14th February at White Heat with support from Dale Earnhart Jr Jr before the band popped over to Paris for day two. Not bad work when you can get it.

This is Thom Rhodes at 3am in the morning before we got in the van for an eight hour drive to Paris. After White Heat most of us grabbed a couple of hours sleep, Thom just kept partying. He is my god.

This is an option at the cafe on the way over to France. They probably mean Hot Dog, but I’m not going to commit either way.

During our photo shoot for NME there were loads of old Photo magazines from the 80s scattered around the room. They all had erotic photos on the cover then inside there was loads of really technical stuff about aperture and flashes. The best one was Grace Jones. Here she is getting ready to kick some ass.

Three guys just hanging out on the Metro.

You’re not meant to take photos at Silencio. So this is a totally illegal, on the downlow, once in a lifetime shot of the stage set up for us at Silencio. Also Mike Evans is in the background which triples it’s value. (Silencio is a nightclub in Paris for the Gliteratti, it was designed by David Lynch, check it out here. It’s pretty awesome)

Some really clever guy decided to park his car THIS close to our van. We were totally trapped. We thought we were to be stuck in Paris FOREVER. Luckily for us Grant is a genius and did a secret magic trick that moved this car miles down the road. I can’t tell you what it is, but it was so beautiful. Harry Houdini would have been proud.

Here is a photo we found in a book of Frank Zappa telling everyone that Folk is a Drag. This has nothing to do with us playing a lovely show in Paris or spending eight hours in a van between London and Paris at 4am in the morning. But it is an awesome photo.
