Exclusive guide Track by Track: Jonathan Boulet - Gubba

Less gibberish, more ‘Gubba’ - read the Aussie’s guide to his album alongside a fancy stream.

It’s not easy to pick up on given the blitzing pace with which Jonathan Boulet works, but every so often he falls into a rut and the creative stops short. His solution, like any rational so-and-so, is to eventually write about it, but this Australian gem is gradually getting more prolific, better at fighting past writer’s block. ‘Gubba’, his third album, follows on from the breakthrough 2012 LP ‘We Keep The Beat, Found The Sound, See The Need, Start The Heart’. It’s also his first on Caroline/Popfrenzy since finishing his deal with Modular. Whereas his previous record dealt in heady doses of thrashing albeit restrained punk, there’s a lot more variation here. It’s an album that sways from all-out ferocity to playful crossover pieces.

Below, Jonathan’s talked DIY through his latest record, in order sift through the gibberish and cut out the ‘Gubba’.
