News Tracks: Theme Park, Roses Gabor, SOHN & More

It’s that time of the week again, when the DIY writers and radio presenters sit down, thrash it out, and bring you the best new tracks that have hit the internet over the last seven days. So relax and put your feet up, whilst we give your ears a good warming courtesy of Theme Park, Roses Gabor, S O H N and more.

Theme Park – Two Hours
The latest visual offering from North London’s Theme Park is, by no means, a new track. Having been previously released as a single, from one of the capital’s most promising new bands: having played multiple sets at this year’s Reading & Leeds Festivals and having sold out the majority of their upcoming shows. But the track has been granted a music video that builds up to the band playing, and miming badly, at a house party. And that’s not all, ‘Two Hours’ has been listed on their new EP, one that will also feature four covers, so it’s about time that you got on to Theme Park – a band almost guaranteed to go far. Paul Westerberg - My Road Now
Little has been heard from former Replacements singer and legendary US indie figure Paul Westerberg since a clutch of recordings in 2009. Unexpectedly a new recording entitled ‘My Road Now’ surfaced last week, which was sent by Westerberg’s manager to a local blogger based in his home town of Minnesota. The track is a complete and utter beauty. Full of all the bruised soulfulness that characterises his best work it is a stirring piano ballad which features a typically bitter Westerberg lyric as he addresses an ex-lover and proclaims, “This is my road now, and you can hit it, baby”. The Cigarette Bums - Stoned To The Bone
Emerging from the small, sweaty bars around LA. The Cigarette Bums play lo-fi scuzzy blues reminiscent of bands such as The Strange Boys. As the singer wails with a smoke strained voice and distorted guitars collide in perfect shambolic harmony, those that are listening will want to pour themselves a stiff sour bourbon and dance a freaky step in the corner alongside all the other intoxicated garage beat locals. This track really is the perfect night cap. (Jack Bacon)

Roses Gabor - Stars
Providing guest vocal on tracks by some of the UK’s most progressive and exiting dance producers has been a common route to solo success for a number of female artists. Roses Gabor, who has featured on tracks by Redlight and, most prominently SBTRKT, looks set to follow that route with her stunning solo debut ‘Stars’. Produced by Redlight it is a deeply sultry piece of cut up beats mixed with Gabor’s ultra soulful vocals. It is a track full of alluring night time languor. The single will be released on Toddla T’s Girls Music label. (Martyn Young)

Flame Griller - Flame Gorillas
Alongside the likes of fellow rapper Raphael Attar, Flame Griller are one of the most exciting acts to emerge from the unlikely Yorkshire Hip Hop Scene, signed to beatastic indie label Sinoptic, the flame grillers are a threesome of Wenslydale cheese throwing youths named respectively Addverse, ExP & JND. Between them they speak a rhythmical language and conjure images of ‘Last of The Summer Wine: The Next Generation’ as this single ‘Flame Gorillas’ is far fresher than the likes of Comp and Clegg’s moth eaten tweed jackets and is going to keep all the beat heads between the Dales and Detroit feeling fresh. S O H N - T H E W H E E L
It’s common knowledge that music journalists don’t live in the real world, but when they’re complaining about entering spaces in between the characters in an artist’s stage name, you can be sure that life’s troubles are some distance away. S O H N merits the use of the space bar, even if it might dent his hopes of appearing high up in a google search. The Vienna/London newcomer has dropped his electronic emotive edge, instead going gung-ho pop with ‘T H E W H E E L’; a glorious statement of intent from a producer of huge potential. (Jamie Milton)
