With a nod to family heritage - Troumaca shares its name with a Caribbean Island, which member Geoff’s family hail from - and tropical pop, these guys have been together for just over two years, quitting their jobs and focusing on emerging from the same movement as Peace and Swim Deep. Troumaca offer a separate strand from the ‘B-town’ scene, and although they’re good friends with Peace especially, their music is more experimentally rooted, its tropical psychedelia displayed in debut single ‘Lady Colour’ a different beast to the anthemia of their peers.

That’s not to say ‘Lady Colour’ isn’t, in its own way, gloriously effective. The mantra “this is cosmic love coming from above” is bound to be sung in triumph by thousands if it falls into the right hands. It’s picked up the praise - and the funds - of DJ Gilles Peterson, gaining release on his Brownswood label. Light, sweeping piano patterns - the kind you might find in Wild Beasts’ or Alt-J’’s tracks - are drenched in deep, bass heavy notes and Geoff’s noteworthy vocals, all loaded with character, are seemingly channelling a falsetto-stripped Jonathan Higgs from Everything Everything. What we’ve heard so far is a strange melding together of all the UK’s finest musical exports. Troumaca are but a few steps away from becoming part of that gang on their own merit.
