In the magazine March 2018

Featuring The Magic Gang, Gengahr, Sunflower Bean, Kate Nash & more.

The March issue of DIY is out now, and it’s fronted by The Magic Gang. With their debut album out next month, we’re delighted to welcome Jack, Paeris, Kris and Gus to our cover for the first time!

We talk to the band about their debut, out 16th March via YALA! Records, formative tours with Wolf Alice and more, and how they actually first met on Skype (millenials, huh).

They’re joined in the new issue by Sunflower Bean, who release their brilliant second effort ‘Twentytwo In Blue’ next month, a biting social commentary forged over months on the road in a politically torn America. Kate Nash is also in the new issue, finding a new sense of purpose with ‘Yesterday Was Forever’.

Gengahr are also back this month, following up their ace debut ‘A Dream Outside’ with ‘Where Wildness Grows’, an album that took time but one that ended up seeing the band grow in ways they couldn’t imagine. We catch up with the quartet to dig into its creation.

Elsewhere - and get your pen and paper at the ready - Demob Happy guide us through the history of rock, and its influence on their storming, riff-happy new album ‘Holy Doom’.

In Neu, we profile London-via-Dublin trio and Shane McGowan’s new best mates Whenyoung as they prepare to head out on tour with Dream Wife, Peace and The Vaccines (not bad, not bad). They’re joined in our new bands section by Heavenly signings and buzzy Cardiff-based newcomers Boy Azooga, and NYC’s brightest new hopes, The Britanys.

The mag opens with word from Peace, who return with new single ‘Power’ and details of their third album. We’re bloody grateful to have them back, to be honest, and talk through their time away with frontman Harry Koisser.

My Chemical Romance’s rock-opera opus ‘The Black Parade’ gets our Hall of Fame treatment, we head to NYC for a DIY Presents show with Dream Wife, and that’s only the start of it.

All this and more is in the March issue of DIY, which is available free via stockists across the UK, and readable online. If you’d rather have a copy posted to you in person, you can do so (or subscribe!) below.
