In what feels like the blink of an eye, we’re getting ready to say goodbye to another year and, frankly, we just don’t know if we’re ready to! So, for our November 2024 issue, we wanted to reflect back on one of this year’s biggest success stories, all while also looking ahead to something incredibly exciting for 2025…

That’s why this month, we’ve got not one, but two incredible cover stars - and we don’t say that lightly! After returning this summer with her chart-topping, Rick Rubin-produced third album ‘This Is How Tomorrow Moves’, we’re thrilled to have beabadoobee return to the cover ahead of her huge upcoming sold out UK and European tour. “You get people who are out of your world who work on a song with you, and they just make you feel like shit,” Bea tells us in our cover feature, speaking about her working relationship with the iconic producer. “Rick was the first person [beyond her team] who made me realise, ‘Oh, maybe I am a good songwriter’. It was everything I needed and more.”

Plus, we’re positively misty-eyed to be welcoming back old friends The Maccabees to the front of DIY in celebration of their recently-announced reunion, for which they’ll be headlining All Points East next summer. In our exclusive first chat with the full band, we dig into their final days together and discover exactly what prompted their reunion just weeks ago. 

“The last shows were the most emotionally-taxing things. To have started a band when you were 16 with the dream of getting to that kind of place, and with everything that had gone into it over the years, and then you’re finally reaching that peak while it’s falling apart…” the band’s Hugo White explains, reflecting on their final tour back in 2017. “The contrast of internally knowing that we were reaching the end while externally looking like we were reaching the top level, it was incredibly confusing.”

Elsewhere this month, we speak to Glaswegian icon Bobby Gillespie about Primal Scream’s fiery new album ‘Come Ahead’, reflect on the personal grappling and growth that lies at the heart of mxmtoon’s wonderful third release ‘liminal space’, and step into the somewhat meta world built by LA star Wallice on her long-awaited debut ‘The Jester’.

We also get a glimpse into the forthcoming sixth record from idiosyncratic dance-punk legends Franz Ferdinand, wedge ourselves in the middle of McFly and Busted’s ongoing (comedic) feud, and catch up with Scandipop pro MØ, to chat about her recent single ‘Who Said’ and what else she has on the horizon…
