Alekxandr shares glistening debut single ‘s a l t c r y s t a l s’
Tracking a revelationary night out in Berlin, the singer’s first effort is today’s Neu Pick.
Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Alekxandr.
Today’s Neu Pick comes from London-based art-pop singer Alekxandr, and it’s a pretty huge one. Tracking the progress of a revelationary night out that turns into a morning after, ‘s a l t c r y s t a l s’ is packed full of feeling, and based around lush, ambient instrumentation.
Explaining the meaning of the track to us via email, Alekxandr says: “‘s a l t c r y s t a l s’ was written in Berlin about my first experience at Berghain and the guy I left with. After 14 hours of dancing, in what felt like the most glorious version of hell, we railed through the city and wound up on grass, evaporating under September sun. The encounter left me wanting. The song is an attempt to preserve that fleeting encounter”.
