Climbing the charts
Band Aid 30 is the fastest selling song of 2014
The updated version of ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas” is raising funds to help combat Ebola.
Bastille, Elbow, Sam Smith, Clean Bandit and a host of other famous names, faces and voices recorded a new version of the classic track, under the tutelage of Sir Bob Geldof, to help raise awareness and funds to battle the Ebola crisis.
Released on Monday, ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’ has already sold 206,000 copies digitally, with a physical version to follow in the coming weeks. Clean Bandit’s ‘Rather Be’ is now the second fastest selling song, shifting 163,000 copies in a week.
It’s not all been good news for Sir Bob though, who was cut off during a television interview last night for repeatedly swearing amidst criticism from Ian Birrel, the founder of the Africa Express project that Band Aid is “patronising and perpetuating myths again.”
Despite previously being announced, Disclosure have had to distant themselves from the project, alongside Adele, Foals and Fuse ODG.
