Neu Pick BAUM gets in ‘Hot Water’ on thunderous new single
The first single from the singer’s debut LP is today’s Neu Pick.
Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from BAUM.
Los Angeles’ BAUM is releasing her debut LP ‘First’ in the Spring of 2018, and its first single ‘Hot Water’ is our Neu Pick for today.
Concerning a coming-of-age story between two girls, ‘Hot Water’ is a thunderous pop song, the emotion of which comes bursting out in its fiery chorus.
Flitting between Robyn-esque, fist-pumping pop to a more floaty bop reminiscent of The 1975. Whoever it’s compared to, ‘Hot Water’ is an extremely exciting first hint at BAUM’s debut LP.
“It was important for me to have a love story between two women,” the singer told Ladygunn. “Pop culture and the media are very heteronormative, which will hopefully change in the next few years… The media has definitely become more inclusive recently, but still, has a very long way to go.”
The track’s video gives a fairytale ending of sorts, but BAUM’s music doesn’t ignore the all-too-real downsides to such infatuations, and makes ‘Hot Water’ all the more real as a result.
