Berghain is “high culture”, according to a Berlin court
Iconic club now shares the same cultural status and tax bracket as museums and concert halls.
As ruled by a Berlin-Brandenburg fiscal court, iconic club Berghain can now be considered “high culture”.
Following the verdict, Berghain now occupies the same bracket as theatres, museums and concert halls, and will pay seven percent of earnings in tax.
Previously, the club was subject to 19% tax. Nightclubs were categorised as solely putting on “entertainment events”, but due to Berghain’s status - a strict door policy, unique nights and events including art exhibitions - it has been re-classified.
