BEST EX get ‘Ice Cream Anti Social’ on new EP

The band FKA Candy Hearts are back with a new collection on Alcopop! Records.

The band FKA Candy Hearts are now back as BEST EX, and releasing new EP ‘Ice Cream Anti Social’ on Alcopop! Records tomorrow (14th June), and we’ve got an early stream of the whole thing for your lucky, lucky ears.

A lightning-fast six-track collection, ‘Ice Cream Anti Social’ is full to the brim of sugary melodies. ‘Girlfriend’, the EP’s opener and the first single released under the BEST EX name, is coated in a pop-rock sheen and is catchy to the point where it’s almost irresistible.

‘February 4th’ sees the band tackle slower cuts with as much success as their shooting-for-the-stars pop, and closer ‘Jellyfish’ took more than a few hints from those ukelele interludes on the last Paramore album.

Speaking about the new EP, vocalist Mariel Loveland says: “Ice Cream Anti Social is sort of an ode to those moments where you’re alone in your room and reflecting on your life. As a whole, it covers those sort of thoughts you can’t kick when you’re lying in bed about to fall asleep, or it’s midnight and you’re in your underwear, eating ice cream out of the carton, wondering what the heck happened to you.

“It wavers between that fine line where you aren’t sure if you’re actually killing it or a total mess. I don’t know if this is a true fact about life or anything — I’m sure those older than me will disagree — but this EP was largely about coming to terms with the fact that no matter how many people are around you, you will always be sort of alone.”

‘Ice Cream Anti Social’ comes out tomorrow (14th July) via Alcopop! Records. Stream it in full below and pre-order here.
