Bonobo gets intimate in the new video for ‘Break Apart’

The collaboration with Rhye featured on his latest album ‘Migration’.

Bonobo released his latest album ‘Migration’ all the way back in January, but he’s released a new video for his collaboration with Rhye, ‘Break Apart’.

Hang on though, you might be thinking, didn’t Simon Green already release a video for the track where we took a trip to Mars, directed by Neil Krug? Yep, but this one’s quite different. It’s been directed by Spencer Creigh, who produced the clip on no budget at all, but reached out to Bonobo’s team directly with the footage. It intimately follows three young couples in three separate motel rooms as they spend 24 hours together with no phones, televisions or other distractions – and Simon loved it from the first watch.

Speaking of the video, Creigh explained: “I wanted to create the sensation that you, as the viewer, are somehow participating in voyeurism by watching the video. There’s this great dichotomy that you experience watching the video where you’re simultaneously moved by watching these very authentic moments of true feeling and then this uneasy feeling that you’re invading their privacy.”

He continued: “‘Break Apart’ is a track that’s sort of painful and pleasurable at the same time, I felt like the video shared some of that almost masochistic quality to it, and the track just added so much life and weight to the video’s nuances”.
