The BRIT Awards 2017 statue has been unveiled

The bendy award was designed by architect Zaha Hadid.

Tomorrow (2nd December) the shortlist for the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award will be announced, but in advance of that, this year’s statue – designed by the late Dame Zaha Hadid – has been unveiled.

Last year Pam Hogg designed an individual trophy for each of the winners and, let’s face it, if you were handed the one that was almost all plain white, you’d probably have felt a bit short-changed. Architect Hadid has taken a simpler approach. Director at Zaha Hadid Design, Maha Kutay, said that “the biggest challenge was to create something different within certain guidelines, yet achieving a result recognisable to the public.”

The result is a silver statue that does look a bit like Hadid’s curved architectural designs. But it also looks a little bit like it’s been melting on trees with Salvador Dali’s watches, and they’re quite pointy on the top. The winners probably shouldn’t run around with these after they’ve had a few drinks (we’re looking at you, Sheeran).

The BRIT Awards will be taking place on Wednesday 22nd February at London’s O2 Arena.
