Brunch rise and shine with ‘Yowie’ single

The latest addition to Fierce Panda’s singles club is a lo-fi slab of Pavement-esque indie rock - stream it on DIY.

Brunch is truly the greatest of the meals. Late enough to let you have worked up an appetite, early enough to therefore justify cramming huge amounts of breakfast goods into your face, it’s a truly euphoric experience. Also, it predominantly takes place at the weekend, which is of course the best part of the week.

Brunch is, therefore, a brilliant band name. Invoking those feelings of sausage-and-egg-based joy from the off, it’s an inspired choice - thankfully, though, there’s the tunes to back it up. ‘Yowie’, premiering below, is a stop-start slice of lo-fi-as-you-like indie-rock, cut from the same cloth as Speedy Ortiz, Krill and their mid-western US ilk. This lot, though, are from London, and are set to release the track as part of similarly capital-based label Fierce Panda’s new singles club.

Once ‘Yowie’ shakes off its early morning sleepiness, it stretches its limbs through a shimmering midwestern emo-indebted aesthetic. Eventually diving straight into an anthemic ending ‘straight from the Weezer playbook, the fact that it’s set to be released on a beer-mat (yep) makes it perfect for your beer-chugging autumn get-togethers.

Stream it below. ‘Yowie’ b/w ‘Sick Maschine’ will be released on the aforementioned AA-side beer-mat later this week - pre-order it here.
