Cosima is hardly anonymous on ‘Un-Named’
Her new track is about “the sadness that can come before hope”.
After releasing her ‘South of Heaven’ mixtape last year and sharing a video for ‘To Build A House’ back in February, Cosima is back with a brand new track.
‘Un-Named’ is another dark R&B number where Cosima’s yearning vocals drift over the top of whirring, deep synth lines and bassy melodies, rounded off with trap-inspired beats. It feels both full and fragile at the same time, capturing Cosima’s increasing confidence but also the dark auto-biographical backstory behind it.
In a statement, Cosima said: “Depression is a funny thing, you can be in denial for a long time. When I read back over my notes and lyrics I realised there may be a deeper issue. I started writing the lyrics to Un-Named at the height of summer; it would be beautiful outside and I’d spend the days in bed with my phone turned off and my curtains drawn. I didn’t know how to engage with the world so I hid away. This song is about the sadness that can come before hope; if you choose to let it in”.
