Death Valley Girls tackle mental health issues on darkly danceable new track ‘More Dead’

If the subject of mental health isn’t one normally tackled on slices of swaggering, dark-hearted rock’n’roll, then Los Angeles quintet Death Valley Girls’ latest proves that the two needn’t be mismatched bedfellows.

Delivering a fuzzy, propulsive, dystopian dancefloor filler of the kind that you’d likely find clad in black and snuck into a Horrors DJ set, ‘More Dead’ is a solid banger but with a distinct message.

“After having experiences with people we love struggling to stay alive, we believe the harder the battle, the less one is able to ask for help,” explain the band. “We wanted to write a song about how important and necessary each person is, especially these days. We need numbers now more than ever to fight the good fight.”

The video, directed by Dylan Mars Greenberg, meanwhile ends with a heartfelt written statement: “Please reach out to your suicidal friends. Please reach out to your loved ones. Please remember there are people animals and beings who love you. Your existence is important to this world.”
