Divorce’s Felix Mackenzie-Barrow launches solo project Book of Churches
He’s introduced his new venture with an intimate debut single entitled ‘Song By A Stranger’.

Felix Mackenzie-Barrow - aka one quarter of breakout alt-country outfit Divorce - has announced plans to release a debut solo album under his new moniker, Book of Churches.
The news follows what’s been a whirlwind year for Divorce, who released their first record ‘Drive To Goldenhammer’ to rapturous reception and graced stages across the UK, Europe, and North America (including one particularly memorable turn at Wales’ Green Man Festival).
Written in snatched moments between this packed schedule, Felix’s solo project was born of an “incredibly DIY” process which saw him write a song, record it the next day, and then leave it alone until passing the album over to the capable hands of producer Richie Kennedy (Interpol, The Last Dinner Party).
Due to arrive on 6th March via Gravity / Capitol, the eponymous LP has been introduced by way of its lead single ‘Song By A Stranger’, which Felix has described as “the blueprint for how I wanted to make the album”. Speaking about the album more broadly, he shares: “It feels a bit like a travelogue. In some ways, when I wrote these songs, I was talking to the person I was no longer in a relationship with – just saying hello. Sometimes, the songs were attempts at looking for a North Star that I could speak to.
“It’s this idea of how big the world is, and how precious those few connections that you have with people are, and how you can feel those so acutely across vast spaces and times. Book of Churches is basically a metaphor for how I felt making these songs. These songs are like my version of whatever church is.”
