FKA twigs’ legal battle over her name is still ongoing

The Twigs are unhappy with Tahliah Barnett for “her wilful trademark violation”.

Tahliah Barnett aka FKA twigs is still locked in a legal battle with The Twigs, despite changing her name in 2013. Linda and Laura Good have been performing as The Twigs for over 20 years, though the twin sisters are still unhappy with Barnett’s current moniker, despite adding ‘FKA’ in front of her original name ‘Twigs’.

Billboard have looked in depth at the legal case, reporting that:

“In April 2014, just prior to her live American debut, the 27-year-old, then known simply as Twigs, was slapped with a lawsuit by Linda and Laura Good, who had been performing for two decades as The Twigs and hold a registered trademark. According to the documents in the case, Barnett first reached out to the Goods by email in June 2013, and later offered them $15,000 if they, or at least their creative handles, could co-exist.”

Since the initial battle, a judge has denied the Goods’ request for a restraining order, because it was brought within hours of Barnett performing the debut show. The Twigs now have the right to sue FKA Twigs and her label again, and Laura Good has stated: “We have not agreed to this distinction. Since September 2013, [Barnett] has been on notice of her wilful trademark violation.”
