Flying Lotus’ ‘You’re Dead!’ features FKA Twigs and Earl Sweatshirt collaborations

FlyLo opened up about his new record - out today - and revealed that it features some massive collabarations.

Flying Lotus’ fifth studio album ‘You’re Dead!’ came out yesterday, and to mark the occasion, Steve Ellison tweeted further details about some of the collaborators who helped him make it, as well as confirming the existence of various alternative takes on album tracks.

Ellison revealed that “Eyes Above” has a beat that he put together with FKA twigs and Blank Blue’s Niki Randa, and as if that wasn’t enough, Kendrick Lamar also casually popped in to put down a verse - “that can’t come out I guess,” added Ellison, nodding to the politics that stopped him putting it on the album.

Odd Future’s Earl Sweatshirt also features on ‘Dead Man’s Tetris’ “saying shit n the background sometimes”, but the main guest spot on that particular song comes from Snoop Dogg. Opening up about the pairing Ellison admitted that it “almost didn’t work” so he had to “rework the beat.”

As for unreleased outtakes, there are apparently plenty. There’s a version of ‘Ready Err Not’ with a Chance The Rapper verse, and Ellison added “I sometimes play it in my live show.” Ellison also said that he has an alternative version of ‘Obligatory Cadence’ where he’s “singing about a dream I had once about a deity who took me into the clouds and showed me a world without darkness.” As you do.
