Frank Ocean’s ‘Blonde’ was self-released, it turns out
‘Endless’ filled Ocean’s obligation to label Def Jam.
When Frank Ocean released visual album ‘Endless’ last Friday, it fulfilled his obligation to label Def Jam, meaning new album ‘Blonde’ was actually self-released.
While ‘Endless’ credits Def Jam, ‘Blonde’ simply credits ‘Boys Don’t Cry’, the name of the album’s accompanying magazine.
It comes at the same time as Universal’s boss has set out the intention to ‘outlaw’ streaming exclusives for the major label’s album - ‘Blonde’ is currently only available on Apple Music.
