Graham Coxon: ‘I Wanted To Go Somewhere Different’
I wanted to go somewhere different - but without going backwards.”“

Graham Coxon ‘wanted to go somewhere different’ with his forthcoming album ‘A+E’.
Speaking to DIY in this month’s issue of the magazine, the Blur star gave us an insight into his staggering eighth release.
‘I think I did want to do something different,’ he begins. ‘Because I love ‘Spinning Top’ but I wanted to go somewhere different - but without going backwards. It would have been easy to do that ‘Magazine’-y type of thing but it would have been a disservice to these jams I was writing.’
‘I was going into an area which, I wouldn’t say it wasn’t a comfort zone, but I tried not to do my default guitar playing. It can be totally boring when I’m very ‘Graham Coxony’.’
Was that always a conscious thought when making this album? ‘I didn’t have much of an idea when I started it. The demos sort of dictated how the songs were gonna be. I had these ideas that - I wouldn’t say were underdeveloped - but they were mostly focused on rhythms and drum sounds and there wasn’t an awful lot of melodies. I thought I’d take them to the studio and see what happened.’
Graham Coxon’s new album ‘A&E’ will be released on 2nd April via Parlophone.
