Neu Pick
Great Cynics spread their wings on ‘Butterfly Net’
The track, taken from the band’s upcoming LP ‘POSI’, is today’s Neu Pick.

Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Great Cynics.
Calling your new album ‘POSI’ is a statement of intent from any band, much less one called Great Cynics.
Luckily for the London quartet, their sugary punk is joyous enough to ignite a fire in even the frostiest of hearts, and it’s showcased perfectly on new track ‘Butterfly Net’. Besides, who can’t relate to the line “caught the 37 to Peckham / picked up some Tyskies / felt completely fulfilled”.
Speaking about the track, vocalist Giles Bidder says: “‘Butterfly Net’ is about taking control of your own life. Even in accepting that you can’t control everything that happens, you are able focus on the good things. Are you going to give in and live a sad existence or are you gonna stand up for yourself?”
‘POSI’ is coming out via Specialist Subject on 24th March. Pre-order it here and listen to ‘Butterfly Net’ below. The band also play a pair of London shows in April.
