James Holden & The Animal Spirits announce new album ‘The Animal Spirits’
They’ve also shared its lead track, ‘Pass Through The Fire’.
Four years on from the release of his last album ‘The Inheritors’, producer James Holden is back, and he’s brought a new group of friends along for the ride.
The newly-expanded band, going under the name James Holden & The Animal Spirits, are set to release their new album ‘The Animal Spirits’ on 3rd November via Holden’s own label Border Community. The band consists of long-time collaborators Tom Page and Etienne Jaumet as well as Marcus Hamblett, Liza Bec and Lascelle Gordon.
The album itself was recorded live in one room together in single takes, with no overdubs and no edits. As such, ‘The Animal Spirits’ is set to see some of Holden’s most genre-fluid and dynamic work to date.
As well as announcing the new record, the band have also shared new track ‘Pass Through The Fire’. It was the first song Holden wrote for the group, taking shape across many months of pre-show dressing room practice, as he attempted to imbue drummer Tom Page with the spirit of Gnawa music. That rhythmic spirit is kept alive in the track itself.
