Joey Bada$$ drops new single ‘Christ Conscious’

Two years on from his ‘1999’ mixtape, the Brooklyn rapper has released a second single ahead of debut ‘B4DA$$’

It’s been two years since Joey Bada$$ released his mixtape ‘1999’, establishing himself as a name to watch in hip-hop. Now, finally, his debut album, ‘B4DA$$’, is on the way. If Joey doesn’t already have his debut record title as a number plate on his car it’ll be a massive letdown, but other than that, there’s no sign of disappointment. The formidable ‘Christ Conscious’ is a strong indication that the New York rapper is still riding the surging waves of ‘1999’.

As Joey Bada$$ puts it himself, this new single is like a “nuke that I’m dropping”. He’s been performing verses from ‘Christ Conscious’ live for quite some time now, but in full, along with a shiny new M-I-E directed video, it sounds massive. Wandering the streets of his native Brooklyn, before getting fuelled by weird crystals and rising into the sky like a kind of god-like rap figure, the ambition and intentions behind ‘Christ Conscious’ is clear. On the strength of Joey Bada$$’ latest material, it looks like he’s about ready to step on up.
