All that glitters…
Kane Strang gets glittery in the video for ‘My Smile Is Extinct’
The New Zealander’s new album ‘Two Hearts And No Brain’ is out next week.
Next week (30th June to be precise), New Zealander Kane
Strang is releasing his new album ‘Two Hearts And No Brain’ via Dead Oceans.
At the time of announcing the new LP, the follow-up to ‘Blue
Cheese’, he shared a brand new track, ‘My Smile Is Extinct’. It was another
slightly lo-fi slice of alt-rock with Kane’s typically witty and clever lyrics.
Hey it kicks off with the lines “yes she is the best I’ve ever had/ I’ll say it
to her face, I’ll say it to her dad” so it must be a winner, although it does
have a dark side. It’s actually about him falling asleep in his car only to
wake to find that his girlfriend’s confessing that he’s cheating on him. That’s
not news you want to hear first thing in the morning.
Some slightly better news though: Kane’s got a new video for
the song! And there’s glitter in it! It’s a pretty simple set-up: Kane sits and
sings the song to the camera in a giant hall that’s reminiscent of school photo
day. Then things get bright, spangly, and neon-lit. A bit like the track itself
though, there’s a bit of a melancholic edge hanging around the clip that just
can’t be shaken off.
