Kendrick Lamar suggests that ‘DAMN.’ should be played backwards
He’s advised a whole new way to enjoy the album in an interview.
Have you had enough of listening to ‘DAMN.’ yet? No? Yeah, that was a silly question, wasn’t it?
Perhaps though there’s yet another way that you can enjoy Kendrick Lamar’s latest opus – and the suggestion comes from the man himself. In an interview with MTV News, Kendrick has claimed that listening to ‘DAMN.’ in reverse might actually be a better listening experience than in its standard running order.
Speaking in the interview, Kendrick said: “I think like a week after the album came out, [fans] realized you can play the album backwards. It plays as a full story and even a better rhythm. It’s one of my favorite rhythms and tempos within the album. It’s something that we definitely premeditate while we’re in the studio”.
He adds: “I don’t think the story necessarily changes, I think the feel changes”. So then, there’s only one way to test that theory, isn’t there? Let’s all start off playing ‘DUCKWORTH.’ and end with ‘BLOOD.’ See you on the other side…
Recently, Kendrick dropped a new video for ‘LOYALTY.’ featuring Rihanna (which is just about in the middle of the album, whether you’re going backwards or forwards). Catch up with the clip below.
