Lorde takes on Phil Collins’ infamous drum-banger ‘In The Air Tonight’

She performed the cover (which has made a few appearances on her UK tour) in BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge.

New Zealand pop ledge Lorde is currently over in the UK on tour, and last night at Ally Pally - amid the ‘Melodrama’ bangers and a shit-tonne of costume changes - she also found time to squeeze in a slightly unorthodox cover of a stone cold classic.

Luckily enough, midway through her trip around our shores, Lorde made time to pop into BBC Radio 1 to commit her cover of Phil Collins’ ‘In The Air Tonight’ to the Live Lounge tape. As with the original, Lorde does a cracking job of amping up anticipation for that stonking tom-bash. If there’s but one criticism, it’s that once those drums kick in, the song fades out teasingly quickly, but tbh that’s an issue to take up with Phil Collins.

Anyways, get your air drum solos at the ready and watch a couple of video clips from the performance below. You can also hear the entire thing by skipping to 02:13:10 on the whole episode.
