Neu Pick:
Mutes get colossal on new track ‘No Desire’
We’ve got the first spin of the title track from the Birmingham noise-mongers’ debut album as today’s Neu Pick.
Every weekday, DIY’s
new music know-it-all Neu brings
you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from
Mutes.
Birmingham post-punk outfit Mutes have a heck of a pedigree.
Featuring members of Viv Albertine’s band and noise-mongers God Damn (who have recently been special guests of Wakefield’s finest The Cribs on tour). The band are
now gearing up to release their debut album ‘No Desire’, out on Friday via FOMA,
it’s seen them working alongside Dom James at Peckham’s 123 Studios to nine
slabs of gut-punching rock.
In advance of the juggernaut’s release, they’ve shared its
behemoth of a title track – and that’s meant in more ways than one. Although it
stands at just a touch over 10 minutes long, it’s such a colossal slab of
rock that reveals an intriguing, adrenaline-pumping new element every step of the
way. Filled with scuzzy riffs and deep, hazy vocals, it twists and turns,
leading the listener through a labyrinth of scuzz. Keep an ear out for
something a bit unexpected at the end too. You’ll have plenty of desire to
listen to this one over and over again.
So, strap yourself in for the ride and listen to ‘No Desire’
exclusively below.
Featuring Yard Act, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Maisie Peters and more.
