Power Lunches in London is set to close

The latest casualty of London councils’ incessant dismantling of anything fun or great, Dalston venue Power Lunches is set to close its doors.

A Facebook event has been set up for the venue’s “goodbye party”, which will see The Glugg, Sauna Youth, Not Sorry and The Rebel play live - that’s set to take place next Saturday (18th December). Events will take place until the 23rd, and then that’s your lot.

DIY have reached out to Power Lunches for a statement. The closure comes at the end of a year that’s seen numerous venues around the capital face closure, including Madame Jojos, Plastic People, 12 Bar Club. Last month it was announced that The Coronet in Elephant & Castle will be shut down in January 2017, despite an ongoing campaign by local residents to #SaveTheCoronet. This week, Shepherd’s Bush Empire was closed due to serious structural damage, though that’s (hopefully) only a temporary measure.

Update:

Power Lunches have released a statement via their Facebook, stating that “in the last year it has become financially unviable for us to carry on without compromising the integrity of what power lunches is known and loved for. We all know it it has become increasingly difficult to do good stuff in a city that is so focused on making a profit without much concern for anything else.”

Nice one, London.
