Turnpike Glow will release their debut EP ‘Inflatable Optimism’ this coming Monday (11th June). Before then however, you can stream the entire four-track release - which was mixed by Broken Social Scene and Los Campesinos producer Dave Newfeld - here on DIY.
Speaking about the EP, the band told us: ‘Watching Broken Social Scene live in Rome a few years back was one of those rare and unforgettable nights for us. It was one of those gigs where you fully appreciate all you wanted to do in live is be in a band and write music. So when David Newfeld, the brains behind ‘You Forgot It In People’, declared his interest in mixing our debut EP, we almost fell of our chairs. It wasn’t something we had planned when moving from Rome to London. It actually took us a while to find our way, meet the right people and settle down . There were times when optimism had to be ‘inflated’ artificially. And more generally these aren’t exactly rosy times we’re living in so the EP’s title is a reflection of that in a way. The lyrics to our latest single ‘The Turn, The Pike and The Glow’ were inspired by ‘Inside Job’, an enlightening documentary on the recent financial meltdown and on how we got there.’
