Angelica Garcia - Cha Cha Palace
3-5 StarsHer multicultural background and years of travelling come over strongly across the record.
The second album from the Virginia-based singer-songwriter, ‘Cha Cha Palace’ sees Angelica Garcia attempt to mash together alt-pop and electro-beats with a Mexican twist. Her multicultural background and years of travelling come over strongly across the record; while tracks like ‘Lucifer’ carry a more American alt-pop sound, tracks such as ‘La Enorme Distance’ reflects her Mexican heritage, its haunting vocals providing a surprisingly refreshing mid-album breather to prepare for the chaos of subsequent track, and lead single, ‘Guadalupe’. Her vocals definitely sound best with softer instrumentation, as on ‘Valentina’, where the soft guitar provides a contrastingly calm backing to emotive lyrics and layered harmonies.
