Hot Club De Paris - Drop It Till It Pops

Debut album ‘Drop It Till It Pops’ is obsessively relentless in sheer power, while they’ve mastered the art of naming.

There are two things Hot Club De Paris are not short of: energy and emotion. Debut album ‘Drop It Till It Pops’ is obsessively relentless in sheer power, while they’ve mastered the art of naming; if the hip-hop parody of the record’s title itself wasn’t enough, ‘Sometimesitsbetternottostickbitsofeachotherineachother’ and ‘Hello, I Wrote A Song For You Called ‘Welcome To The Jungle” compete for incredulity.

With just two of the thirteen tracks clocking in at over three minutes, ‘Drop It Till It Pops’ is nothing if not frantic. ‘Shipwreck’ is a dive straight in to the deep end, ‘Sometimesitsbetter…’ as pant-wettingly poptastic as ever, and ‘Who Am I?’ quite frankly puzzling.

With The Futureheads’ timekeeping, The Young Knives’ vocal melodies and even a spot of beatboxing for good measure (‘Bonded By Blood (A Song For Two Brothers)’, ‘Drop It Till It Pops’ is one hell of an exhausting listen - it’s designed neither for dancing nor dancing to - but ultimately very much worth it.
