Jalen Ngonda - Doctrine Of Love

Above all else, he’s a powerful storyteller.

Jalen Ngonda - Doctrine Of Love

After his stellar debut ‘Come Around And Love Me’ propelled the Maryland-born, Liverpool-made musician to dizzying new heights, Jalen Ngonda extends the tranquility of his discography with soothing second album ‘Doctrine of Love’. With chords and keys that meander through the mind like honey, opening track ‘Anyone In Love’ pulls a chair from the table and invites you to sit back, take a deep breath and unwind. It’s little more than twenty seconds until the distinctive soul of his voice walks into the room and leaves you spellbound, locked into the soothing rhythm of the Motown and ‘70s soul-rooted track.

Each track in itself stands as a stellar body of work, with the self-taught multi-instrumentalist utilising the full range of his skill to reshape the same sounds that propelled him to the forefront of modern soul into entirely new soundscapes, woven together with warm, witty lyricism and his soul-touching demeanour the perfect cherry on top. Listening to ‘Doctrine of Love’ is an experience akin to that of a live performance; Ngonda’s spirit intoxicates you and beckons you to sway, smile and relish in the moment - wherever, or whenever that may be. There’s no doubt that this latest offering secures his place at the forefront of modern soul music: above all else, Ngonda is a powerful storyteller.
