Why must musicians be so opinionated? Jay-Z had ‘99 Reasons’ and now the Hereford-based 5-piece Apples have 45. That may be less than half as many as the American rapper, but that’s still a heck of a long list. Thankfully you won’t have to put up with us naming anywhere near as many reasons to listen to this bubble of summery pop pleasure; you’ll be hooked after the first three bars.
With a saxophone intro and riff that sounds as if it could have been created on a casio keyboard in someone’s garden shed, it seems to be on the same wagon as Passion Pit in terms of faux-amateurism. ‘Reason 45’ is charming, catchy and so carefree it makes you want to throw your Mac out the window and take the day off work. So grab that picnic basket and tartan rug; this is the summer of twee.
