EP Review
Modern Rituals - Yearning
4 StarsAn intricate and intriguing example of heavy music being pushed past its boundaries.
It’s no easy feat to make a searing impact over the space of just four tracks, but with their new EP – and the follow-up to 2018 album ‘The Light That Leaks In’ – Modern Rituals more than manage it. Opening with ‘Alfredo Snivellin’, a mammoth track which veers from densely squalling guitars to discordant moodiness and back again, this four-track offering showcases the band’s composed ability to shift from ginormous sonics to luscious, delicate moments and back again, with the deft flick of a switch.
Packed with power, yet still laden with gorgeous melody – especially in its second half – ‘Yearning’ is an intricate and intriguing example of heavy music being pushed past its boundaries.
