Graham Coxon - Truth
‘Truth’, dominated by a pulsing groove, as a first taster goes a long way to showing off where ‘A+E’ is heading.

Graham Coxon solo material seems to go in cycles. You’ll have the experimental phase, the acoustic albums - even the occasional shot at being a ‘sort of’ pop star. No two consequential records are guaranteed to be cut from the same cloth. Self proclaimed to be an album of ‘improvisations, experiments in beats, rhythms’, his forthcoming eighth full length is most likely the most interesting to date. Not so polished, when the accompanying press release describes it as ‘the closet Graham has ever come to making, in a skewed sense of the word, ‘dance’ music’, it probably has a point.
‘Truth’, dominated by a pulsing groove, as a first taster goes a long way to showing off where ‘A+E’ is heading. The building, almost industrial thump gives way to a gloriously distorted riff - like a steam-powered rave for the living dead, the thin line between drone and melody is walked to near perfection. While anyone expecting a chart bothering indie-disco super hit along the lines of ‘Freakin’ Out’ is likely to be left disappointed, there’s more meat to pick from it’s jerking, reanimated bones.
